Job Applicant Sues Perfetti Van Melle Over Background Check Process

A job applicant has filed a class-action lawsuit against Perfetti Van Melle, alleging it improperly rescinded his job offer after a background check. The suit claims the company violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act by failing to give the applicant a reasonable chance to review and dispute the report before withdrawing the offer. It also alleges violations of Illinois law restricting use of conviction records in hiring decisions and seeks damages and punitive relief.
