The ICO’s AI and Biometrics Strategy

On June 5, 2025, the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) launched a strategy to regulate AI and biometric technologies. The strategy focuses on high-risk areas such as police facial recognition, automated decision-making in recruitment and public services, and the development of foundation models. Key actions include developing a statutory code of practice, auditing police use of facial recognition, and engaging with AI developers to ensure responsible use of personal data.
