California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced on July 1, 2025, that Healthline Media will pay a record $1.55 million civil penalty for violating the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and Unfair Competition Law. Healthline allegedly failed to honor opt‑out requests, continued sharing readers’ personal data (including sensitive health‑related article titles) with third parties, and used a deceptive cookie consent banner. The settlement requires strict compliance measures, audited contracts, and cessation of sharing diagnosis‑linked article data.
