What Type of Background Check Should I Run?

Running a national background check before hiring a nanny or caregiver is a critical part of the process.  This should include a social security trace, a national criminal search, a national sex offender search and a seven-year county criminal search in at least the main county in which the nanny has resided. A Department of Motor Vehicle search is also recommended and speaking to references is a great way to understand the individual’s past experiences. Household employees expect benefits, including paid time off, health insurance, paid holidays and other employment perks. Those looking to get rid of a nanny after a positive experience should give at least two weeks’ notice. A negative experience, however, does not require any amount of notice.
