A state court has halted the NYPD’s plan to fire 31 officers hired in 2023–24 despite having received formal disqualifications during background checks, actions prohibited by state law. The department discovered the hires were mishandled by Inspector Terrell Anderson, who allegedly overrode failed psych evaluations and character assessments. The Police Benevolent Association secured a temporary restraining order, arguing the officers were not to blame and deserve due process. A court hearing is scheduled in mid‑July.
