Thomas Homan, acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), announced that workplace enforcement would be increased by four or five times the current levels. Workplace inspections involve an audit of an employer’s Forms I-9, in addition to other investigations. The inspections could involve the arrest and removal of any employees who do not have valid work authorization. Employers are encouraged to provide I-9 refresher training to Human Resource professionals, perform a self-audit of all I-9s and review I-9 processes and policies.
