Dating app Tinder is researching background-check nonprofit Garbo to explore the possibility of enabling its app to search for potentially concerning details about their date. For a fee, adding Garbo’s service will allow users to consider more information before they decide how they want to proceed with dates. Apps like Lyft, Uber, and Airbnb have already added similar safety features in recent years. While there are a few intentional limitations to the produced report, Garbo focuses on violent crimes and won’t provide information on offenses like drug possession or traffic violations. Likewise, it won’t provide people’s emails or addresses.
