Ohio State Rep. Tex Fischer’s bill requiring the use of the federal E-Verify system by employers passed unanimously out of the House Commerce and Labor Committee. House Bill 246 would mandate that contractors and subcontractors on public and certain private construction projects verify new hires’ legal work authorization to ensure a legal workforce. Fischer emphasized workforce integrity and protection of jobs for authorized workers as key goals of the proposal.
