New research reveals that many AI-powered resume screening tools used by major employers exhibit built‑in bias, favoring Black candidates and women over white men by up to 12 percent, and sometimes by as much as 25 to 50 percent in controlled testing. Even when resumes are identical except for names or cultural indicators (like alma maters), white male applicants were consistently disadvantaged. The study underscores the urgent need for improved fairness controls and oversight of AI hiring systems.
