New Developments in the Taiwan Personal Data Protection Act

Recent amendments to Taiwan’s Personal Data Protection Act significantly strengthen data privacy enforcement. Key changes include the creation of an independent Personal Data Protection Commission, mandatory data breach notification requirements, expanded security and compliance obligations for organizations, and increased penalties for violations. The amendments aim to align Taiwan’s framework more closely with international data protection standards and are expected to take effect in 2026 following further implementation rules.
