Compulsory Drug Test for Job Seekers

The Nigerian Federal Government has introduced mandatory pre-employment drug testing for all applicants to the federal public service, requiring Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to include screening in recruitment to protect public health, workplace efficiency, and national competitiveness. The policy, supported by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, aims to curb substance abuse, especially among youths, and link drug-free status with job opportunities. Effective implementation needs transparent processes, rights protection, and broader education and prevention efforts.
