Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas has addressed the obstacle of past marijuana convictions by pardoning some low-level convictions at the municipal level. Those who were convicted in a county or federal courthouse are ineligible, but municipal offenses can be pardoned through an application process at the Kansas City government website. Staffers of the mayor’s office are hoping to plan expungement workshops to help people seal their records. A marijuana conviction will remain public record, despite being pardoned, and applicants will still be required to disclose their conviction if asked on an application.
