Suspected Use of Marijuana in the Workplace

In partnership with Stringer LLP, First Reference Inc. recently hosted the 19th Annual Employment Law Conference at which the latest developments surrounding the legalization of cannabis were discussed. A large number of questions were received during a Q&A session from employers concerned about how legislation of recreational marijuana will impact the workplace. Many are wondering the best way to approach an employee who is suspected of marijuana use, which requires an individual approach and assessment. Employers should consider proactive and reactive approaches, including hazard and job-safety assessments and the ability to identify signs of impairment, as well as available resources and support systems.
