New Hampshire Opioid Crisis Continues to Challenge Employers

Employers in the state of New Hampshire continue to struggle to hire adequate numbers of skilled employees to meet business needs and the opioid crisis adds a significant hurdle to overcome. It is important for employers to know how to assist addicted employees, minimize the impact of the crisis on business and avoid legal risk. It is recommended that business owners become as familiar as possible with addiction and put into a place an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP). Understanding the legal issues, including those governed by the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), is equally important. Other tips include reviewing policies around leaves and flexible work hours, updating drug testing policies, understanding the process of recovery and encouraging the involvement in community service or educational programs centered around mental wellness.
